Resources for doing amateur experimental and observational science abound. There has been, traditionally, very little for the amateur theorist. My column is an attempt to address this issue. Not only will you find topics of interest, but also theory challenges and their answers, and a list of references in the form of books and web sites.

A lifelong scholar and writer, George is an adjunct professor and is president of the SAS branch in Madison, WI called Madison Area Science and Technology (MAST). In addition to writing two columns, he also does research into theoretical physics, astrophysics, meteo- rology, mathematics, scientific computation, science education, biochemistry, and microbiology.
