Society for Amateur Scientists Holds 2006 Meeting

The Society for Amateur Scientists (SAS) held its 2006 annual meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, from 24-27 August.

The agenda included a wide range of intriguing reports and presentations on topics ranging from Labrats (Fig. 1) to the history of an historic meteor fall. The poster session topics ranged from superb dragonfly photography to sampling atmospheric aerosols and microbes using a model rocket.

The Benjamin Franklin Award was presented to John Powell, president and founder of JP Aerospace. This abbreviated installment of The Citizen Scientist includes a report about this remarkable amateur scientist and his pioneering PongSat and Airship to Orbit projects.

Stay tuned for the 22 September 2006 installment of The Citizen Scientist for reports and photographs from the 2006 SAS Conference.
