I’ve just returned form vacation; therefore this week’s “Wanderings” will be a bit light.

A few weeks ago, I noticed a proliferation of purple flowers growing in areas where there were none in previous years. My wife told me that they were purple loosestrife, an invasive speciest that was first introduced into North America in the early 1800s for ornamental and medicinal purposes.

Other invasive species that have made the news in the last few years are the
Chinese mitten crab
, snakeheads, taxifolia and cane toads.
