The Citizen Scientist goes biweekly

Shawn Carlson, Founder and Executive Director of the Society for Amateur Scientists, announced in a letter to members on 17 September 2004 that publication of the The Citizen Scientist would change from weekly to biweekly.

Here is the text of Shawn's announcement:

"While everyone seems to appreciate the improved format and content of our on-line members magazine The Citizen Scientist, a number of you have shared with us your thoughts on how TCS could be made to fit your needs even better. From your comments it is clear that the single most significant thing we can do is include more how-to projects, like the ones I used to publish in Scientific American. That is exactly what we have resolved to do!

"Unfortunately, these articles are so time consuming for the editorial staff to deliver that its just not possible to do a good job of this with a weekly publication. So beginning immediately, TCS will go from a weekly to being published every other week. The first new edition will appear on October 1. Even with the extended schedule, these improvements won't come easily and they won't be fully implemented overnight. So please give us a few months to work out the kinks in getting the new content to you.

"Forrest Mims requests that anyone who is or has been working on an amateur science project please take some time out and share your work with the greater community. It's not only a great way to get your name out there and to inspire others, but it is also the best way to find collaborators or to get help that could help you move your project along. "SPECIAL NOTE: If you have photos or personal experience with the recent hurricanes please contact Forrest right away to take part in a special project he is preparing for TCS!"
