We Invite You to Participate in the Nomination of Our Franklin Citizen Science Award Winner

Each year at our Citizen Science Conference we bestow the prestigious Franklin Citizen Science Award on one carefully chosen and deserving citizen scientist. In the past, winners have included paleontologist Jack Horner and astronomer David Levy.

With our conference coming up in January 2005, it is now time for us to start the nominating process for this award.

To be considered for nomination, the citizen scientist must be nominated by an SAS member. You are permitted to nominate yourself in the process; however, the nominee does not need to be in any way associated or affiliated with SAS. The nominations will be pre-screened by an ad hoc committee chaired by the SAS Executive Director. Up to five finalists will be selected. A panel comprised of some of America's most distinguished scientists will then select the winner. Nominators must submit a brief statement describing the candidate's work and also provide their contact information.

The recipient will be notified at least six weeks in advance of the awards banquet so that he or she may attend and prepare a 30-minute lecture on their work. The recipient must be present at the conference to receive the award.

The winner of the Franklin Citizen Science award will receive a cash honorarium along with a plaque. They will also be the guest of SAS at the conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
