23 July 2004 A widow skimmer takes a break Sheldon Greaves
On Saturday, 17 July 2004, my spouse Denise and I went on a short outing to nearby Arcadia Management Area, a state-run park area near Exeter, Rhode Island. We were looking to take pictures of local wildlife, particularly dragonflies. These remarkable creatures hold a particular fascination for my spouse, and we found many varieties along the marshy shores of Browing Mill Pond. I managed to capture this photo of a male widow skimmer (Libellula luctuosa) while it perched on a nearby shrub. Sheldon Greaves is Managing Editor and Webmaster of The Citizen Scientist. |
