Allen Rhodes, a frequent Gallery contributor, has provided another of his photographic encounters with the natural world. This time he sends a photograph of a large Texas brown tarantula (Aphonopelma hentz) from LaSalle County, Texas, about 130 km (80 miles) south of San Antonio. Allen writes, "The tarantula was walking across an area of short grass, and was probably 11 to 13 cm (4.5 to 5 in) across."
