Winter
in Finland
Reino Talarmo
Here are some cool snapshots from the still ongoing
winter in Finland. These I took at the beginning
of February, when the temperature was around -15
to -20 C.

Tracking
Satellites
Philip Chien

News
Since the earliest days
of the space program, amateur astronomers
and sky watchers have viewed artificial
satellites. A satellite is visible when
it's illuminated by the sun while the
observer on the ground is in relative
darkness (dusk or dawn).

We have read in the media that
Professor Pianka has received death threats
as a result of media reports about his speech
at the Texas Academy of Science. And I also
want to inform our readers that I have received
via email such a threat as a result of my editorial
about his speech as well as obscene and abusive
email and phone calls.
I want to make this crystal clear: The Society
for Amateur Scientists deplores all threats
or use of intimidation for any purpose whatsoever.
If any information comes to our attention regarding
who is taking this despicable action against
Professor Pianka we shall immediately forward
it to the proper authorities with our fervent
hope that they will prosecute the perpetrators
to the fullest extent of the law.
Shawn Carlson, Ph.D.
Founder and Executive Director
Society for Amateur Scientists
