Photo: The Blackout From Space

A photograph taken by a satellite clearly shows the region darkened by last week's blackouts.

As we were looking at the photo here at the SAS office, we noticed that the area darkened by the blackout looks even darker than other areas that don't have any light.

Does anyone have any explanations for this, besides the possibility of some photo-enhancement?

We'd like to thank Tim Dolan for bringing this photograph to our attention.

Thanks also to Denise Greaves also told us about this site, with more images from the blackout: http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories/s2015.htm
