08 August 2003 Advanced Book Exchange by Tim Dolan Want to find an out of print book? For example the Scientific American Book of Projects by C. L. Stong or perhaps Amateur Telescope Making (1-3) by Ingalls. These and many other out of print or collector books may be found by searching the Advanced Book Exchange web site. This site brings together many used book stores from all over the world. For rare and out of print books, this may be the only way to find what you want. However the used book stores do not care if the book is out of print. Used copies, of books still in print, may be just the ticket for the amateur trying to build a library with minimum resources since used copies of in print books are often available. When you search the ABE site you are actually searching many different small businesses all over the world. I found a numerical methods book in Australia. Lucky for me there was a cheaper copy of the same book in Northern California. I actually found a copy of Shawn's Astronomy book in a used book store less than three miles from my house. When purchasing books through this service, you may use a credit card through their secure server or Pay Pal or you may contact the book store directly. Email addresses and phone numbers are provided. It is a good idea to contact the store to make sure the item you want has not been sold. Give Advanced Book Exchange a try; it costs nothing.
